On February 19, 2015 the opendorse team set off to make history in South Dakota through #opendorski. The team shredded the fresh pow pow, commandeered the karaoke bars, and even had dinner in the presence of “Wild Bill” Hickok’s spirit. Over the course of #opendorski, the team learned a few valuable lessons.
1. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
On #opendorski day two, the team was divided between first hitting the slopes or eating Tim’s Famous Breakfast Casserole. Half of the team opted for an early start on the slopes while the rest stayed behind to get a solid breakfast. The van got stuck in the driveway from all the fresh snow, and the team ended up leaving at the same time.
Moral of the story: Always eat your breakfast.
2. “You gotta pizza!”
Before heading off on the #opendorski adventure, the team reflected on safety tips including “doing the pizza” to slow down on the hills. While on the slopes, there was the constant reminder that if “you french fry when you pizza, you’re gonna have a bad time.” Thank South Park for that reference.
3. You are what you wear.
Had the Fashion Police been on the slopes “Deadwood Dale,” also known as Andrew Venrick (VP of Brand Relations), would have won “Best of Slope” style. Sporting his Swagga Suit, Deadwood Dale quickly became the most recognized man on the slopes.
Honorable Mentions: Kaci Hixson (Brand Team Specialist) and Laura Bergen (User Interface Lead).
4. “Stranger Danger.”
Between two opendorse team members almost accepting a ride from a lone stranger instead of skiing back to the lodge or outsiders trying to hop in our van, the opendorse crew took a crash course in vehicle safety. We learned to never accept rides from strangers, and never let strangers in our ride.
Here’s looking at you, Tony.
5. Having a killer score makes for a killer road trip.
Having a good soundtrack can make or break a road trip. Here are a few songs that made #opendorski 2015:
Attitude is everything. Just ask Patrick (Athlete Representative). Anywhere the GoPro was, Patrick was ready to entertain!
There you have it, the top five lessons learned on #opendorski 2015. This snapshot into the opendorse culture was brought to you by tremendous amounts of GoPro footage and 18+ hours in a van.
