About
Biography
Hello, my name is Jacob "Jake" Herbert. I was born with a rare spine disorder called Caudal Regression Syndrome. From the moment I was born I was told I would have a 20% chance to live past 2 years old, that was 32 years ago. I grew up in an military and country family, where I was not treated like some burden due to me being in a wheelchair. With the support of my family over the years I have beaten the odds time and time again throughout my life. In 2010 I started in adaptive sports first playing wheelchair basketball. I played for about 5 years, but in 2015 while working out at the gym I was going to an able-body powerlifter took noticed at my strength and asked me to come over and bench a few sets. At the moment I knew powerlifting was the sport for me. I made my first TEAM USA National team in 2016 and competed in my first World Championship in 2017 in Mexico City. In 2022 I received my first gold metal at the American Open Championships for Parapowerlifting.
