I’m Luis Astacio, a wrestler at Sacred Heart University competing in the 165 lb weight class. I was born and raised in Trumbull, Connecticut, where I first discovered my passion for wrestling and the lessons it teaches about hard work, focus, and mental toughness. Before college, I was a two-time FCIAC Honorable Mention and placed 3rd at the CT Challenge and 2nd at the Ridgefield Challenge. Now, as a team captain at Sacred Heart, I take pride in leading by example—pushing myself and my teammates to keep improving every day. To me, wrestling is more than just a sport—it’s a test of discipline and character. The mindset I’ve built through wrestling carries over into every part of my life, teaching me how to stay composed, work hard, and stay committed to my goals no matter the situation. Family and community mean everything to me. They’re the reason I push myself to represent my hometown and my team with pride, grit, and integrity. Every time I step on the mat, I carry those values.
