Sydney Watkins came to Lowell and provided an immediate spark for the River Hawks. Watkins served as a team captain and led the team with 80 assists while leading the conference with 76 steals. She added 209 points and 10 blocks on the season and set career highs in points and rebounds. On January 11, Watkins etched her name into the Umass Lowell women’s basketball record book with 10 assists against NJIT. She tied the Umass Lowell Division 1 record for single-game assists, tying for sixth in program history and was the first River Hawk to tally 10 assists in a game since 2017. She is also now fifth in single season assists in Division 1 program history. Following the regular season, Watkins was named to the 2023-2023 America East All-Defensive Team. With basketball playing a huge role in her life, she still makes time to do the things she loves such as art, volunteering, and spoken word. Having the opportunity to challenge her perspective and grow as a person is her goal.
